How to Shop at What A Great Hat!
By Paula Singleton
If you've ever said, "I can't wear hats," you're not alone. But rest assured there is a hat for every head (sometimes many hats). For those of you with a larger- or smaller-than-average head size, buying a hat off the rack that actually fits is nearly impossible. And for those with an average head size, you also know that the selection of hats you have to choose from is limited at best.
Finding a great hat requires trying on different shapes and styles. Often, you’ll find a hat that works well for you in my inventory. If not, I’ll work with you to discover the shape, size and color that are perfect and then make a custom hat incorporating those elements.
Making hats by hand is labor-intensive and very rewarding. But the icing on the cake, so to speak, is trimming each creation to make it unique. A large part of the hat’s personality comes from those trimmings and the hunt for them is definitely part of the fun. Scouring flea markets, tag sales and auctions for feathers, fabrics, buttons, lace and jewelry and then incorporating those tiny bits and pieces of something lovely make most of my pieces
one-of-a-kind. That being said, if you see a one-of-a-kind design that you love, I can generally create another piece with the same feel and flavor.
Please contact Paula about any of the hats on her site. Or if you would like something custom-designed to go with an outfit or coat, she’s happy to work with you to make something special.
