Workshop Fee: $95 per person
Skill level: Anyone can learn to make a hat! Basic sewing skills are helpful but not required.
Objective: Paula Singleton will conduct a workshop teaching you how to make embellishments for a Kentucky Derby hat and then attach them to a pre-made wide-brim hat. An additional outer band may be created if you wish to have the option of removing the embellishments for a simpler, more everyday look. Two hats in one!
Workshop Date, Time and Overview: Sunday, April 3, 2016, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to embellish a hat that’s perfect for the Kentucky Derby or any special occasion. Paula will show you how to make a bias fabric headband, bow, hatpin rose and feather bundles and teach you how to attach these items to the band so that it may be removed and a “plain” band may be substituted for a more casual look. The color scheme for the hats is classic black and white but an additional color may be added if desired, such as a pink flower or adding a few pink feathers to the black and white bundle.
Supplies: All the necessary basic supplies will be provided for completing one Kentucky Derby hat, including a pre-made wide-brim black hat, fabric, ribbon, and feathers. Please bring a basic sewing kit, including pins, millinery needles (available at Jo-Ann Fabrics), sharp scissors and inexpensive utility scissors. Additional supplies from Paula’s collections (feathers, ribbon, etc.) will be available for purchase.
Cancellation Policy: Payment of the workshop fee will confirm your reservation. If you find that you are unable to attend, please contact Paula a 330-592-2295 or firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible; you will be issued a gift card in the amount of the workshop fee that may be used for a future workshop or for other merchandise at What a Great Hat. No cash refunds.
